If At First You Don’t Succeed, Try Try Again

Some of the greatest inventors and artists in the world had numerous failures before they achieved what would ultimately put them in the history books. The same goes for recovery from addiction. Many who have been able to achieve long term sobriety had to first suffer a number of relapses before they were able to get sober once and for all.

Hope should not be loss for individuals who go to substance abuse rehab to get help with their addiction only to find themselves in the middle of a relapse. The most important thing for an individual who has faced a relapse is to try again. If recovery from addiction was easy then everyone would stay sober the first time they get into recovery.

If a relapse does occur it is essential to remember that many have been able to get sober and stay sober after a relapse. The sooner that help is sought out after a relapse the better. It is important after a individual to sit down and figure out what happened that caused them to relapse. Were they not working with a sponsor, did they stop going to twelve step meetings, was isolation involved, was medication not taken, were they hanging out with people in places they shouldn’t have been… The reasons relapse occurs are endless.

No matter what the reason or cause of a relapse it is essential to never give up on trying to get sober. One never knows what addiction treatment center, therapist or somebody else in recovery may say that makes something click making long term sobriety achievable.
