In 2010, there were 57,300 admissions into alcohol and drug rehabs in Pennsylvania. Of that number, 68.6% were men and 31.4% were women.
Alcohol & Drug Addiction Rehab Admission Statistics for Pennsylvania in 2010The number of drug and alcohol addiction treatment facilities in Pennsylvania dropped from 488 in 2002 to 446 in 2006. There were only 52 drug and alcohol rehabs capable of handling opiate addiction in 2006, the last year of published statistics.
In 2004-2005, NSDUH indicated that 281,000 (2.7%) of citizens in Pennsylvania reported illicit drug dependence or abuse. Roughly 185,000 residents reported illicit drug dependence in 2005. Furthermore, in 2005, the last available statistics on this issue indicated that 252,000 residents of Pennsylvania reported needing treatment but not receiving treatment.
Alcohol is not categorized as a drug, but the reality of all state statistics indicates that alcohol still leads admissions to drug and alcohol treatment facilities throughout the country.
In 2010, 13,399 people with primary alcohol dependence entered treatment, followed by an additional 9,026 who entered treatment with an alcohol problem combined with a secondary substance. In 2010, it was reported that 35% of Pennsylvania middle schoolers had used alcohol.
Over the past 14 years, there has been a constant decline in the number of individuals who go into treatment solely for alcohol dependence. In 1998, the number of admissions for alcohol was 38% while in 2005 the percentage decreased to 24%. Despite these figures, people who suffer from alcoholism still lead those entering substance abuse treatment facilities.
In 2006, 33.7 % of the Federally-sentenced defendants in Pennsylvania had committed a drug offense. 44% of those drug cases involved crack cocaine.
There were 739 kilograms of cocaine that was seized by federal agencies in Pennsylvania in 2007.
In 2007, there were 18 drug courts located throughout the state of Pennsylvania. That same year, the DEA made 813 drug arrests in Pennsylvania. Law enforcement agencies reported 1,935 juvenile arrests and 17,607 adult arrests for sale and or manufacturing of drugs and 31,883 people were arrested for possession of drugs in 2007.
In 2007, there were 4,999 arrests for marijuana.
There were 11 methamphetamine lab incidents that involved DEA action in 2007. The majority of traffic comes from locals who produce meth and crystal meth in illegal labs. Organized trafficking routes exist from California and Mexico through Pennsylvania.
Crystal Meth and methamphetamine trafficking and abuse is a growing problem in Pennsylvania, specifically in the Philadelphia area.
Pennsylvania ranks among the top 18 states where drug related deaths exceed those deaths from motor vehicle accidents.
