According to the Treatment Episode Data Set (TEDS), in 2010 there were 6,618 people who went to drug and alcohol substance abuse treatment in Hawaii, 65.5% admits were male and 34.5% were female.

According to the 2006 National Survey of Substance Abuse Treatment Services (N-SSATS), there were 105 drug and alcohol addiction treatment facilities in Hawaii. Since 2006, the number of drug and alcohol rehabs in Hawaii has increased overall. Approximately 10 % of Hawaiian residents reported past-month use of illicit drugs17 facilities offered some form of residential care and 3 offered opioid treatment programs.
In the 2007-2008 time period, Hawaii was among the top 10 states for the largest percentage of 12 years old and older currently using illicit drugs. Approximately 10 % of Hawaiian residents reported past-month use of illicit drugs; the national average was 8%.
There were 1,051 people who entered treatment for alcohol abuse and an additional 1,078 who went to treatment for alcohol combined with a secondary drug in 2010, according to Treatment Episode Data Set (TEDS).
Both past month alcohol use and past month binge alcohol use have remained at or below the national rates for all age groups.
Rates of past year abuse or dependence on alcohol in Hawaii have been quite variable over time, and in 2005–2006 the rates for all age groups were at or below the national rates; with those for individuals age 12 to 17 among the 10 lowest rates in the country.
