Prescription drug abuse is a growing problem. One way that many struggling addicts obtain their drugs is through the illegal activity “doctor shopping”. This is when an individual goes to more then one doctor so that they can get more prescription medications such as Xanax, Valium, and Oxycontin.

When dually diagnosed with depression and addiction both diseases need to be treated. The two diseases were feeding off of each other. Drugs addiction often occurs as a way to suppress the symptoms of other diseases such as bi-polar or depression. If both diseases are not treated through addiction treatment then it is going to be extremely difficult to achieve long term, quality sobiety.

For the individual who is suffering from drug addiction it is not uncommon for them to have lots of secrets. Some secrets may include child abuse or sexual trauma. If a suffering addict is not willing to talk about their “secrets” then long term abstinence from drugs and alcohol is going to be nearly impossible to achieve.
