Addiction comes in many forms, such as drugs and alcohol, addictions to behaviors, like eating, and more. Individuals turn to things outside of themselves as a way not to think or feel. The temporary relief found in avoiding the pain eventually becomes more complicated and more painful then the initial pain.
For many of us who know and love someone who is alcoholic, drug addict or suffering from an eating disorder know how hard it is to say ‘”NO.” The disease of addiction is so powerful it takes everyone around the individual addicted and makes them part of the illusion to make everything okay.
I don’t know of anyone who starts out drinking and thinks one day I may be alcoholic. If drinking wasn’t associated with fun people wouldn’t continue to drink. Unfortunately what happens is a fine line is crossed and once crossed it is too late. It takes years to form an addiction and the behaviors associated with the addiction.
