Shopping For a Prescription Drug Addiction

Prescription drugs are just as dangerous as street drugs like heroin and cocaine. Once addicted to prescription drugs it’s not uncommon for an individual to start “doctor shopping”. “Doctor shopping” is a term used for people who go to more then one doctor so that they can obtain prescription drugs to feed their addiction. This is against the law and can result in time behind bars.
Corey Haim, the former teen heartthrob, was apparently involved in a major drug ring where the guilty were using doctors prescription pads to get prescription drugs such as Oxycontin. Haim’s death is another tragedy that is a direct result of prescription drug abuse left untreated.
Prescription drug addiction is a problem that continues to grow. The only way to effectively stop a prescription addiction is through addiction treatment. Because of the nature of prescription medicine such as Valium, Vicodin, Xanax and Oxycontin a medically supervised detoxification is going to be needed to safely and comfortably ween an individual off of drugs. After detoxification is complete clients at addiction treatment will be treated for the psychological aspect of their disease through therapy and group counseling.
Corey Haim’s death and now apparent involvement in a major drug ring is yet another example of the dangers and consequences of a drug addiction that is left untreated. Haim was once a teen star that had the world at his fingertips. Because of his inability to get his addiction under control he is now an unfortunate statistic.
