Corey Haim had a bigger reputation for his partying ways/drug addiction then for the success he had in the eighties for popular films such as ‘The Lost Boys’, ‘Lucas’ and ‘License To Drive’.  Haim had been struggling with his addiction for all of his adult life and had been in and out of drug rehab fifteen times.  Last night I watched him in a couple of episodes in last years reality show ‘The 2 Coreys’.  Being a recovering addict myself I couldn’t help but think that Haim constantly seemed stressed even when he was supposedly “happy”.  He had this constant look on his face that he was troubled.  Then I started to think about the old saying in recovery, “you are as sick as your secrets”.  Corey Haim seemed to be struggling with some serious internal demons.  You could almost see it in his eyes.

“You are as sick as your secrets.”  Seems simple enough doesn’t it.  If you are in early recovery or even have years under your belt I urge you to not keep secrets.  Secrets will keep someone drunk or get someone drunk again.

When trying to recover from addiction for whatever reason if  secrets are kept about their past then it is going to be very difficult to get and stay sober.  If you are struggling with addiction learn from Corey Haim.  When going to addiction treatment take advantage of the staff and let them know about all of your problems.  It is what they are there for.  Drug and alcohol rehab provide its clients with the opportunity to work with highly trained certified addiction professionals.  It could be a once in a lifetime opportunity so make it count.  While everyone around you may know that you are keeping a secret only you have the ability to let it out.
