Many addicts / alcohols  spend years in recovery trying to define their Higher Power. When a patient discharges from a Christian Treatment Center they know exactly who their Higher Power is. Years of living in addiction can create a spiritual void that needs to be  addressed if recovery is to be long lasting.  After years of abusing oneself and others their is often fear in embracing God and many addicts struggle with the concept of Higher Power.

One of the tools used in a Christian Treatment Center is the Bible. Patients become versed in the scriptures and develop a strong personal relationship with God. God is their Higher Power. When a patient re-enters society and begins to work the 12 steps they are much more comfortable than those that are still searching to name a Higher Power.

Their were no Christian Treatment Centers when I attended Drug Rehab. Addiction treatment had the 12 steps and you were to choose a Higher Power of your understanding.  Many used the “power in the rooms” or nature or even inanimate objects all poor substitutes for God. How much simpler it is to start your life of recover with a clear conviction and understanding of God.
