Admission into a drug and alcohol treatment facility does not come at a low cost. For many it can be a major financial burden. At least it may seem that way on the surface. However, if you look at the big picture the cost of treatment should be seen as an investment. Being active in drug and alcohol addiction is a financial and emotional burden that it is extremely costly and if not treated never ends.
When I was abusing drugs and alcohol nearly every penny of mine went towards feeding my addiction. No matter what bills or expenses I had my priority was to make sure that enough money was available to get high enough or drunk enough to not have to deal with my reality. Looking back paying for my treatment was the best investment I have ever made.
Upon putting a stop to my drug and alcohol addiction my life got better. Emotionally I was able to start handling whatever came my way. Financially I started to pay my bills on time and even found that I had money left over and was able to start saving. I joke around with my friends saying that when I got sober I received an automatic raise.
While the cost of treatment was an expensive stretch for me in the short term I had to constantly keep in mind the amount of money that I was spending on drugs and alcohol. Sure I had a bill to pay back to my treatment center when all was said and done but it was very manageable now that I wasn’t spending every last dime on my addiction.
Drug and alcohol addiction can potentially end in death. With the proper treatment and some motivation I was able to put my life back together emotionally and financially. I could never put a price tag on that.
