Specialty Drug and Alcohol Programs Increase Rate of Recovery
Posted by: jhutt In: Alcoholism
While drug and alcohol programs can create an excellent environment in which to begins your recovery, they have a tendency to focus on general drug and alcohol problems, when people tend to be admitted with a variety of problems. What we have come to learn in managing drug and alcohol programs is that drug addiction and alcoholism are symptoms of underlying core issues. The other aspect of treatment that must always be considered is how one can make treatment as engaging as possible.
By drug and alcohol programs developing clinically streamlined components with a focus on particular issues treatment is made more effective. For instance the drug and alcohol treatment program which has developed a Christian treatment program provides the individuals in that program to address issues that may not be appropriate for others. Another example would be a gay and lesbian drug and alcohol treatment program which creates a safe  environment in which to discuss issues an individual may not yet feel comfortable to discuss with heterosexuals.
These type of treatment scenarios have resulted in patients residing in treatment longer, accepting therapy with less resistance and being able to integrate this information with that of a traditional drug rehab approach. This equates into a patient leaving treatment with a better foundation of recovery, resulting in longer term recovery rates.
