How Can I Help You With An Eating Disorder? If you or anyone you know has an eating disorder this is a question often asked. All the text book knowledge, schooling and degrees are beneficial however, to be able to help someone by sharing that you have been where they are and have been able to overcome the disorder weighs more than a degree.
Life experiences hold value, the credibility you offer by sharing your personal experience, strength and hope is tremendous. The decision I made to go to an inpatient treatment program was a profound step in my recovery process. I was a single mother and I used my family as an excuse to continue my behavior and not get help-until someone told me they did the same thing.
I was able to identify with her story and realized the best gift to give my family was to get help. I went to inpatient treatment program and learned how to live life without medicating myself with food. I learned to become aware of my thoughts, words and behaviors. Inpatient treatment saved my life and allowed me to be the mother I was meant to be.
“Let no man presume to give advice to others that he has not first lived successfully himself.”
