How Do I Know If I Have An Eating Disorder?

Posted by: joanna@recoveryconnection.org In: Addiction Treatment| Alcoholism| Eating Disorders| Lakeview Health Systems| Steppping Stone Center| Treatment Centers| Women's Treatment Programs

This is a valid question! So much focus today is on how a person looks and if he or she has the perfect body. This mentality sets men and women up to manifest eating disorders. How can an individual distinguish whether or not he or she has an eating disorder? An alcoholic doesn’t ask themselves am I an alcoholic unless he or she is behaving like an alcoholic, or experiencing the consequences of alcoholism.

The same is true for individuals affected by eating disorders. People wouldn’t say to him or her why don’t you eat? Or why do you go to the bathroom every time you eat? Or I just bought $100 worth of groceries where did they go? Depression is a byproduct of any disorder. If a person has high self-esteem and confidence he or she wouldn’t use an eating disorder as a coping mechanism.

My wish for anyone reading this that can identify with what has been shared would reach out today and get help. Many programs are available to you the courage needed to get help is all that you need to get yourself on the road to recovery. I look forward to hearing from you.
