After the Drugs are Gone

After the drugs are gone from an addict’s body there is still a considerable amount of on-going therapy if there is to be a sustained recovery. Too many addicts leave drug rehab after a short stay and think they are well or that’s all there is to cleaning up the mess their life has become. This kind of thinking contributes to the high percent of relapse cases in addiction treatment. A Drug Detox can help through the withdrawal process and keep the patient medically stable until most toxins’ have exited the body.
After the drugs are gone the addict must be willing to find effective means of facing past trauma and current difficult situations without the use of drugs/alcohol. Emotional injuries from the past that are unresolved will continue to have a negative impact that can lead a vulnerable newly discharged patient back to active addiction. Most drug rehab centers will offer an aftercare program with a professional to monitor and help with the adjustment period. Involvement in 12 step fellowships is also recommended.
