It&#039;s a common misunderstanding that The Needle and the Damage Done was inspired by Danny Whitten&#039;s death.  It may have been written about his addiction but it was written long before he died.  &#039;Harvest&#039; was released in Feb &#039;72 and Whitten died in Nov &#039;72.  Needle was actually written in &#039;70/71 since it appears on &#039;Live at Massey Hall&#039; (Jan &#039;71).</description>
