Sex Addiction Treatment Program

Posted by: jhutt In: Addiction Treatment| Gay Friendly Addiction Programs

For years there was no one even spoke about sex addiction, much less a sex addiction treatment program. As with drug addiction and alcoholism, the first step was recognizing that sex addiction did exist and was treatable. Most sex addiction treatment programs are integrated into mainstream treatment programs with special attention paid to that particular dynamic.

Some sex addiction treatment programs are incorporated into other specialty programs such as sex addiction treatment and eating disorder treatment or a sex addiction treatment program and a center specializing in addiction treatment of the gay and lesbian population. In either case, treatment for sex addiction is best accomplished in a residential setting as the structure allows us to break the cycle and participate in a comprehensive program of therapy.

Since many of the people looking for a sex addiction treatment program are in need of dual diagnosis treatment, it is important to insure the program you choose can meet your needs. Whether requiring treatment for depression or bipolar disorder, eating disorder or drug addiction, look closely into the services provided and who provides them within the addiction treatment program. Unfortunately, health insurance companies do not recognize sex addiction as an illness. I am a sex addict with a dual diagnosis of bipolar disorder and substance abuse. Since I already used my substance abuse benefits (30 days inpatient), my insurance, Aetna, did not recognize my sex addiction as a valid reason to stay at an inpatient facility when I needed it, even though I still have a 30-day inpatient benefit for mental health reasons. They are only thinking about their “bottom line.” What their close mind does not realize is that my illness is what caused me to become addicted to drugs. As a result, I have visited the emergency room twice this year for my drug use, which has caused the Aetna over $30,000 in payments. This is just one example of how deficient this industry is
