Prescription Drug Addictions

Posted by: Dan In: Drug Addiction

Prescription Drug Addictions are becoming more commonplace as pharmaceutical companies manufacture medications that focus on pain relief. People with legitimate reasons to receive pain medication are ending up in detox to quite the prescribed drugs.
We as a society trust doctors and when we find ourselves in a situation where medical intervention is necessary we are willing to follow the directions of those in the medical profession. People often feel betrayed when they try to stop the meds on their own or in physical discomfort when the prescription drugs run out.

Drug Abuse Treatment Centers are seeing an increase in admissions of people that never had a drug problem before they were prescribed pain medication. These people have to enter a medical detox to wean them off these medications. They find themselves in a drug rehab center with people that have had a drug problem for many years. Much of the time they spend trying to explain they are different and that this is a medical situation, not the result of drug abuse. They are often accused of being in denial and a conformational atmosphere is presented. These clients then become a risk to leave against medical advice.

Drug Rehab Centers must take the responsibility to distinguish between addicts and people that have become addicted due to a medical situation. The Drug Addiction Treatment might be the same but the clients have very different personalities.. Doctors, Pharmacists and any medical professional who write or distribute medication, that may be habit forming, must be willing to warn the client of the possibility of becoming addicted.
