Hep C, HIV and Drug / Alcohol Treatment

Posted by: steve In: Drug Addiction

My brother had gone to drug and alcohol treatment three years ago and found out that he was HIV positive in addition to a crystal meth addiction. While the drug and alcohol treatment program was able to provide him with excellent crystal meth addiction treatment, they were not equipped to help him with his HIV. So while he received treatment for his crystal meth addiction, he had to wait six weeks to address his HIV status.

Well as happens in families, I followed suit from a crystal meth addiction standpoint, it just took me three more years before I got into drug and alcohol treatment. I was burnt to say the least and my crystal meth addiction took everything from me. When I got into drug and alcohol treatment and all my medical work was complete they informed me I was positive with Hep C. I couldn’t believe it. About a week later my brother showed up with a few of his friends…..who were gay. My brother had finally come out of the closet. Each friend of his had either contracted HIV or Hep C and were in recovery. The fact they were gay didn’t matter at all to me, they understood. The drug and alcohol treatment program let them come every week, which was great. These gay men were like my little army and were great.

I finished treatment for my crystal meth addiction and am continuing my battle against Hep C. When I completed drug and alcohol treatment they told me to get a support system and I told them I already had one……my gay army…..my friends……If you need drug or alcohol treatment I would strongly suggest Lakeview Health Systems…..They have great srystal meth addiction treatment and have a dynamite medical staff to deal with HIV or Hep C.
