Not Listening in Alcohol Rehab Can Kill

Posted by: dscott In: Drug Addiction

My drinking was so out of control, but sme how I kept thinking I could stop. It was unbelieveable. I had already amassed three DUI’s, wrecked my car and my wife had moved out. One would think I would seek out an alcohol treatment program, but that was still the farthest thing on my mind. An alcohol treatment program meant stopping alcohol and the thought of living a life without alcohol seemed impossible, but then I got arrested for a hit and run. The judge looked at me and said,”Your choice son”, an alcohol treatment program for a minimum of six weeks or three years in jail. Grudgingly I chose the alcohol treatment program and off I went.

Alcohol Rehabilitation Program

While the alcohol treatment program looked nice enough, alcoho rehab was really tough for me. The alcohol rehab staff kept wanting me to explore my feelings, which I had never done without alcohol. I didn’t realize that alcohol rehabilitation meant doing so much personal work. I just thought alcohol rehabilitation just meant stopping drinking alcohol and everything would be fine. Who knew treatment in alcohol rehab had to do with me taking responsibility for my alcohol abuse. Taking responsility for alcohol abuse was ok for you in the alcohol rehab program, but not me.

I have to be honest, I didn’t listen to anyone in the alcohol rehab program. I wanted to drink more than stay sober. I did what they said in alcohol treatment and completed the alcohol treatment program. After that I started drinking alcohol again, almost immediately. Not long after my alcohol rehabilitation, my doctor told me I developed cirosis of the liver and am waiting for a liver transplant. For those of you in an alcohol treatment program or alcohol rehab, listen to the staff or you could end up with me.

If you need an alcohol rehab program for alcohol rehabilitation call the alcohol treatment helpline at 1-800-99-DETOX.
