North Carolina is a beautiful state with gorgeous mountains and wooded areas, but not that convienant when it comes to finding addiction treatment. When I was looking for a North Carolina drug rehab I was told to find one that provided addiction treatment services in a location that could take advantage of “living in the real world.” I knew I would be in drug rehab no matter where I went in North Carolina, but what about practicing relapse prevention or needing a halfway house. These addiction treatment services were much more available in other settings.

Believe it or not I ended up leaving Carolina for a Florida drug rehab that was located in close proximity to a bank, hospital, the beaches and a number of long term addiction treatment if I needed it. The hosital was important because I had Hep C. It was difficult leaving my family, but I needed a drug rehab that was going to save my life and I was willing to do anything and go anywhere; addiction treatment in Florida seemed to provide so many more opportunitites for recovery, off I went.

North Carolina is where I grew up, but Florida is now my home. I have been clean and sober for 3 years now. I went to a halfway house for three months after the drug rehab and moved into an apartment with one of the guys from rehab. It was also easy to find a job because so many people had gone to addiction treatment they helped me.

Maryland Addiction Treatment

Baltimore, Maryland was a crazy place to grow up as far as drugs went. It seemed no matter where I moved, Baltimore, Towson or Annapolis, drugs were everywhere. As for me, my drug of choice was Heroin, but I also came to find out later that I suffer from a BiPolar also. After ten years of using heroin and now having to deal with a heroin addiction, As scared as I was I went to the only Maryland Adiction Treatment Program. This particular addiction treatment program in Baltimore lacked two things as far as my treatment went; it didn’t have a drug detox program on campus and it really didn’t provide top notch dual diagnosis treatment for my bipolar disorder. They provided me with several referrals and the one program which met all of my needs was a Florida drug rehab program.

Florida Drug Rehab

I called this drug rehab program located in Jacksonville, Florida. A drug rehab program in Jacksonville, Florida, who would have thought, but they were great. This Florida drug rehab had a great drug detox program at the facility and a board certified psychiatrist with a background in addiction medicine, not to mention they also had a gay friendly addiction treatment component. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t easy to accept I needed dual diagnosis treatment, but I did. Guess what……Now I live in Jacksonville, Florida and love it. I visit the Florida drug rehab on a regular basis and offer what support I can. I thank god everyday for the Maryland Addiction Treatment Program referring me to my drug rehab in Jacksonville, Florida.
