Treatment Centers for the LGBT

For as long as we can remember the LGBT population was overlooked regarding drug addiction treatment and alcohol rehabilitation. Today there a number of different types of treatment centers for the gay and lesbian community. This is a move in the right direction as there is no one perfect treatment center for everyone. Below you will fiind different types of treatment centers and treatment center philosophies for the LGBT.

Treatment Centers and Treatment Center Philosophies

Gay Treatment Center - this type of treatment center admits and treats only the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender population. There are pros and cons relating to this drug addiction treatment philosophy, but it suffices to say this type of drug addiction treatment does not rep[resent the “real world”.

Gay Friendly Drug Addiction Treatment Center - this type of drug addiction treatment admits members of the LGBT community along with heterosexuals. The difference here is there are specialty groups for the gay patients if they choose to participate in them, if not, that is fine too. This type of drug addiction treatment provides the patient with a choice and at the same time, does resemble the “real world”.

By “real world” we are referring to that not everyone we associate with are gay, so when in a treatment center why place oneself in a situation where you can not possibly address all ones issues without the natural interaction we are all faced with. This type of debate has taken place for many years, but at least there are options today. Treatment centers have come a long way and this is evidenced by long term recovery.

If you are looking for a world class treatment center that is “gay friendly”, you can go to www.gay-rehab.com or call our national toll free helpline at 1-800-511-9225.

Drug Addiction Rehab and My Family

Drug addiction rehab, you have to be kidding me. After years of smoking pot and using cocaine I fiially agreed to go see a therapist to shut my mother up. I knew I didn’t really have a problem, nothing really bad had ever happened and this was the time of my life to party and have fun. After an hour with the therapist she looked at me and said she reccomended that I go to a drug addiction rehab. Of course I told her she was crazy, that I didn’t need a rehab of any kind and everything was cool.

The intervention Before Drug Addiction Rehab
Three days after seeing the therapist I came hoe to find her and my parents waiting for me. They told me that either I go to a drug addiction rehab or I would have to move out and receive no more financial support. I got pissed, packed my stff and on my way out the door told everyone else they needed an addiction rehab not me. A week later I woke up in jail for a DUI. I of course called my parents and they told me they would not get me out of jail unless I went to addiction rehab. Grudgingly I agreed.

Drug Addiction Rehab Saved My Life
Don’t get me wrong, I hated being in the drug addiction rehab for the first week, but after that my eyes started to open. to cut the story short, addiction rehab saved my life. I am cool with my parents and even thanked the therapist. I still see her today. The lakeview drug addiction rehab staff were great and really smart. Their family rehab program brought me and my family so close I couldn’t believe it. What a jerk I was.

If you aare looking for a drug addiction rehab, you might want to call the addiction rehab at Lakeview. The helpline number I called was 1-800-511-9225 and if you are smart you will do it before you end up in jail like me.

This Drug Detox Made the Difference

Drug detox was reccomended, but I didn’t listen. I tried to stop using Oxycontin on my own and got so sick I can’t begin to describe it. I was shaking and cramping so much, I thought I was going to die. Truthfully, I just wanted to avoid going into a drug detox program, but I couldn’t take this anymore.

I went on the internet and called a detox helpline. The detox helpline directed me to a drug detox in Jacksonville, Florida. I called the drug detox and after taking all of my information, off I went. It was fifteen minutes before the staff at the detox program had me settled and meeting with the physician. He did a physical and had me on meds right away. I felt so much better right away. this drug detox was the best because I felt so safe and cared for. I was in the detox program for 7 days and then referred to their drug rehab.

If I had to do it all over again I would have ran to the drug detox program. I would encourage everyone to call the detox helpline to find the drug detox that is best for them. the detox helpline I called was 1-800-99-DETOX. The staff took the time to match my drug detox needs with the drug detox services that were provided. This made the best sense to me and was something no one else did.

Heroin Addiction and My Drug Treatment Center

I was shooting heroin for the last ten years and had developed a heroin addiction it is hard to describe. I went to sleep thinking of heroin woke up thinking about heroin and spent the hours in between, shooting heroin. When I learned I was having trouble with my heart due to my heroin addiction, I had no idea how I was going to stop using. I had so many connections in Baltimore, Maryland. Everywhere I turned I knew someone in Maryland either selling or using heroin, so I knew I was going to have to leave my “friends” in Baltimore and even leave Maryland for a while if I was going to recover.

Florida Drug Treatment Center

A therapist my mother found told her about a drug treatment center in Florida. He said he had sent quite a few people from Maryland there with good results. The drug treatment center was called Stepping Stone Center for Recovery in Jacksonville, Florida. This drug treatment center had a heroin detox program which made me feel better. The detox program for heroin addiction had a complete medical staff to deal with my withdrawal. The detox program had 24 hour nursing and it was located right in the drug treatment center. Heroin detox was not fun, but it was a small price to pay. Right after heroin detox I went into the rest of the drug treatment center. After another few weeeks in the treatment center I was feeling really good. I guess they didn’t agree because when they heard I was planning to return to Baltimore, Maryland they wanted me to take some additional time and assess my decision.

Thank god for the drug treatment center staff because after speaking with everyone I realized how crazy my plan was and I decided to stay in Florida for a while. I checked into a halfway house for 6 months and have decided to live in Florida. Maybe one day I will move back to Maryland, but not until I have built a stable foundation of recovery. If you would like to find out more about Stepping Stone in Jacksonville, Florida you can call 1-800-511-9225. They are great!
