Drug Addiction Treatment in Drug Rehabs

Most people that have attended drug rehabs will say that the recovery from drug addiction was very challenging, but they are glad that they went through the process.

For some who have participated in drug rehabs for treatment of drug addiction have done so only after they have lost friends, family members, and spouses due to drug abuse. This is because drug abuse not only affects the abuser, but the people around that person. Some people do not realize this until after it is too late.

However, these people are not exempt from what drug rehabs can do to help a person. Most drug treatment programs take in all kinds of people regardless of nationality, skin color, socioeconomic background, religion (unless religion is part of the tool to recovery), and other classifier.
Drug treatment programs usually help people from the initial drug detox through the final stages of recovery that lead to sobriety. This is done by carefully selecting staff who are both capable of exercising discipline, and extending compassion to the patients they take in to their drug rehab center.

Drug rehabs are usually very structured, yet many people that want to be free from drug abuse find them very comforting, just like a second family. Furthermore, they have helped many people on the road to a better life, and sobriety.

Drug addiction treatment services have been especially beneficial to those people who decide on their own to sign up, versus those who are court ordered. However, some people who are court ordered for one reason or another will sometimes see the light as they enter into drug addiction treatment. Once they are off drugs they have a better perception of reality, and are able to better receive help and instruction. Thus, this is the start for them for a richer, fuller life. These people will then see their recovery totally through to the final stages, and on into sobriety.

Drug Detox in Drug Rehabs Requires Comprehensive Medical Services

In the past the reason drug detox was only provided in hospitals was due to the medical support they provided. It was not uncommon for patients going through detox for prescription drug addiction or heroin addiction to experience severe withdrawal symptoms. These patients required around the clock nursing attention to combat the possibility of a seizure or convulsion. Today, drug rehabs have implemented similar medical detox services.

Drug Rehabs and Detox

Drug rehabs across the country now have the ability to provide a high level of drug detox services. The key is that they provide inpatient medical detox services, not outpatient detox. Inpatient drug detox means a rehab must provide 24 hour nursing, physician care and around the clock staff support. These drug rehabs are able to dispense detox medications and manage a certain degree of medical problems. Every rehab is different in their ability to handle medical problems. It is imperative these rehabs have hospitals located in their general vicinity in case of a medical emergency.

Why Detox in Rehab?

Lastly, many drug rehabs tend to refer their patients out for drug detox. This is not the best possible treatment as there are gaps that exist with patient transfers. When looking for a drug detox program you are better off to locate a drug rehab that also has a medical detox on their campus. That way, if the patient chooses to accept a recommendation for further rehab, the transfer is seamless and more productive. In order to locate an effective and safe drug detox, you can call 1-800-99-DETOX and they will be happy to make the appropriate referral.

Alcohol Rehabs Who Offer Low Cost, May Cut Addiction Treatment Services

We all know it cost money to enter an alcohol rehab program. Some alcohol rehabs will accept your health insurance as reimbursement, while others without proper licensure and accreditation will ask you to pay privately. While many of the alcohol rehabs market their addiction treatment services as low cost or affordable, it stands to reason their must be a difference in services offered between a $6,000.00 rehab for 30 days and a $15,000.00 rehab for the same time period. The answer is, there are tremendous differences in services.

In most cases, the $6,000.00 rehab does not offer 24 hour nursing for its patients or around the clock medical coverage. They will claim it isn’t necessary after detox, but I beg to differ. Most addicts are so compromised from a medical perspective they require as much medical attention as possible.

Secondly, the clinical schedules of these alcohol rehabs seem to be filled with support groups during the day and provide the minimum of services required by their license instead of the individualized care patients require.

Do your home work when deciding which alcohol rehab to attend and make sure you compare all of the addiction treatment services offered. You can always call one of several addiction helplines for guidance, 1-800-99-DETOX or 1-800-511-9225.

Drug Addiction Treatment in the 20th Century

Drug addiction treatment is finally making the same advances in their treatment methodology as other forms of health care. For many years rehab centers would treat every patient the same regardless of their history, psychological assessment or medical issues. Patients would be admitted into the same rehab groups and be expected to make the same progress as everyone else. Needless to say, this approach to drug addiction treatment did not produce the results addiction treatment professionals were hoping for.

Specialized Addiction Treatment

After much research, it became quite apparent that rehabs across the country had to do a better job of evaluating patient needs and adjusting treatment to meet those needs. for example, if a patient suffered from a psychiatric problem in conjunction with a drug addiction (dual diagnosis) the rehab had to provide the patient with a strong psychiatric component. If a patient was gay or lesbian and their personal issues needed to be addressed in a more private setting rather than in a heterosexual setting, the the rehab needed to provide specific LGBT focused groups to accommodate the patient. By addressing the individual needs of each patient, the overall recovery rate increased.

The reorganization of these addiction treatment programs did not come without many challenges. The rehab had to add staff, retrain clinicians, adjust treatment schedules and decide which populations they wanted to effectively treat. Unfortunately, you will still find a rehab in every state, usually multiple rehabs, that still have not made the change. Take your time when deciding on which drug treatment program to attend. If you require assistance, call one of several recognized helplines for assistance.

You can call 1-800-99-DETOX or 1-800-511-9225. Both of these addiction helplines are toll free, staffed 24/7 and are provided as a public service.
