Florida Drug Rehab Gains Recognition

Florida drug rehabs have long searched for the most effective way to treat drug addiction. Some of them have used the 12 step approach, some a medical approach and other drug rehabs a scientific approach, all of them reporting a high rate of relapse among their patients. No matter how hard the addiction treatment community worked, patients continued to relapse.

Individualized Florida Drug Rehab Program

One aspect of rehab that one physician recognized was that patients admitted to rehab were all admitted to the same drug rehabilitation program, regardless of their needs or background. This meant the patient had to fit into the drug rehab program rather than the drug rehab program changing to meet their specific needs. The end result was that if the patient couldn’t wasn’t a perfect fit for the drug treatment program, relapse was almost certain. Finally some Florida drug rehabs designed drug addiction treatment programs that were able to design their programs around their patient s needs.

Drug Addiction Treatment Comes of Age

The drug rehabs of which we speak have taken drug treatment to another level. They have developed treatment components within their drug rehabilitation programs which specialize in certain areas of treatment. One such area is dual diagnosis treatment and the other is treatment for the gay and lesbian population. While the drug treatment centers still provide state of the art treatment for drug addiction and alcoholism, they have developed highly specialized areas of treatment for these patient populations. This allows the Florida drug rehab to bend to the patient’s needs instead of the other way around.

Drug Rehabs and Drug Addiction Treatment

You can review ten different drug rehabs and there might be several different types of drug addiction treatment. Drug rehabs are not required to treat drug addiction in any particular manner, as long as they follow state licensure. Now Florida might differ from New York, or New Jersey with regard to its state licensure requirements, but the drug addiction treatment program from a philosophical perspective can follow any philosophy they choose.

Philosophy and the Most Effective Drug Rehabs

Historically drug rehabs which utilize the 12 step philosophy have proven to have the best results long term. The greatest benefit of the 12 step philosophy of drug addiction treatment is the support groups they provide people. These 12 step support groups are completely different from treatment but act towards helping someone develop physically, mentally and spiritually.

Are Alcohol Rehabs Different?

There is absolutely no difference between a drug treatment program and an alcohol rehab. Alcohol rehabs also utilize the 12 step philosophy and their patients also go on to attend 12 step support groups. Again, some alcohol rehabs might not follow this philosophy, but long term the alcohol rehabs that do embrace the 12 step philosophy of recovery seem to produce the best long term results.

Dual Diagnosis Treatment Services Make Drug Rehabs Better

Drug Rehab Programs Offer Increased Dual Diagnosis Treatment Services

It is encouraging that dual diagnosis treatment has gained widespread recognition as a special need area and that almost half of all drug rehab facilities across the country offer specialized dual diagnosis treatment programs for these people suffering from drug addiction and alcohol abuse.  It is encouraging that the large majority of drug rehab facilities with dual diagnosis programs/groups offer various forms of counseling or therapy and that these drug rehab programs, overall, offer more services than drug rehab programs that do not offer dual diagnosis programs/groups. Nevertheless, it is of concern that many of these drug treatment programs lack the services required to meet the special needs of dual diagnosis clients; some of which are considered “critical components” of successful dual diagnosis treatment programs. Overall, approximately 35%  of drug rehab centers with dual diagnosis treatment programs/groups did not offer prescription medications, 37.8% did not offer psychiatric or psychological assessment or diagnostic services, and 25% did not offer case management. Only a minority of the drug rehab centers with dual diagnosis programs/groups offered any transitional housing or employment assistance, HIV or domestic violence education, or health screening. Lack of these needed services may render dual diagnosis programs less effective.
Effectiveness of a Drug Rehab Center with Dual Diagnosis Treatment
The overall effectiveness of a drug rehab program with a dual diagnosis treatment program increases ten fold. One of the major factors when considering relapse is an untreated or poorly treated dual diagnosis. By providing effective dual diagnosis treatment services the client becomes more amenable to drug rehab services. You wind up with a more compliant client, more focused client and with enhances the overall treatment for others participating in drug rehab treatment. The key is being able to successfully integrate the dual diagnosis treatment services with the services being provided in the drug rehab program.

A Drug Rehab Program for the Gay and Lesbian Community

There are drug rehab programs everywhere in the United States. You can find a drug rehab program in almost every city. Many of these drug rehabs are just designed for”typical” drug and alcohol treatment and do not go the extra mile for specialized addiction treatment issues. Whether we are speaking about dual diagnosis treatment or treatment for the gay and lesbian community, it is not available in many cases.

A Drug Rehab Center Treating the LGBT

For a drug rehab program to effectively treat a particular population, whether it is men, women or the LGBT, the drug rehab staff must be properly trained and educated regarding their particular issues. Historically drug rehabs tend to admit everyone into the same drug treatment program and expect everyone to recover. We know that method of care is not effective and at a minimum specialty groups need to be injected into the drug rehab program.

The drug addiction treatment philosophy may vary, depending upon the treatment approach that is embraced. The philosophy that seems to have proven to be the most effective in the long run has been the blending of the 12 step philosophy with a variety of therapeutic and medical therapies. The medical therapies to deal with drug detox and dual diagnosis treatment and the therapeutic therapies such as; experiential therapy, family therapy, recreational therapy and individual therapy.

A Gay Friendly Drug Rehab Facility

By our description gay friendly refers to a drug rehab facility that philosophically is designed to effectively treat the gay and lesbian. Gay friendly does not just mean a drug rehab will admit you to their facility and not discriminate, it means we have spent the time and money necessary to provide you with a quality addiction treatment environment. If you require information on a gay friendly drug rehab  or  dual diagnosis treatment center, please go to www.gay-rehab.com.
