Chicago, Illinois Drug Rehab for the Gay and Lesbian
Posted by: jhutt In: Drug Addiction
To date, drug rehab programs specializing in drug addiction treatment for the gay and lesbian population lags behind areas such as Miami, Florida, New York or Jacksonville, Florida. Maybe it is due to a smaller LGBT population or drug rehabs that just are not as focused on the gay and lesbian.
Addiction Treatment for the LGBT
Addiction treatment for the gay and lesbian is no different than for a heterosexual with a few exceptions. There is little doubt that a LGBT has issues to deal with that might be a little different than a heterosexual. Heterosexuals don’t have to deal with the ramifications of homophobia or internalized homophobia. For an Illinois drug rehab to effectively treat a gay or lesbian they should at least have gay specific groups to provide a safe place for sensitive issues to be resolved. Everyone needs a non judgemental setting to work through their “stuff”.
Aside from the actual addiction treatment setting comes having a clinical staff trained and educated in the “gay lifestyle” to make them more effective clinicians, not to mention, having resolved any of their issues surrounding homophobia.
Many of the Florida drug rehabs that are effectively treating the gay and lesbian population are located in Jacksonville, Florida. These Florida drug rehabs combine the best that addiction treatment has to offer and have designed addiction programs to meet the needs of the LGBT population.
